Katie and Tylers’ engagement session in downtown Bloomington in Central Illinois was so sweet and so much fun.  I’ve known Katie my entire life, so when the two of them asked me to document their engagement session, I was so excited.  Tyler and Katie have been together for what seems like FOREVER, so documenting this amazing time for the two of them has just been such an awesome experience.  

Central Illinois Engagement Session

Central Illinois is filled with SO much amazing history and so many cool old buildings.  Living here for a large amount of my life, I have gradually over the years gathered all of the ins and outs of downtown Bloomington and all of the unique spaces that one might not notice on the day-to-day.  The cool grungy alley’s made by the historic brick buildings, the rooftops, the parking lots, the overfilled ivy building.  Not only are these some of my favorite parts of the historic downtown, but they also fit the vision Katie and Tyler had for their engagement session in downtown Bloomington which made me SO excited for their session.

For their Engagement session in downtown Bloomington Normal, we started at one of my favorite locations in town, on top of a parking garage!  There is usually a portion of the top level of this parking garage that doesn’t have any cars on it which makes for the most magical golden hour session.  We get full view of the sunset and have and there is hardly ever anyone else on top of the parking lot, so you have ALL of the room to loosen up and be yourselves without worrying about pedestrians.  After exploring the parking garage we wandered through the back alley’s using the stairwells and ivy covered walls as a backdrop.

The Gas Station

Then, the last location we went to for their downtown Bloomington engagement session was a gas station. Yes, literally a gas station. Hear me out though! This is one of my favorite spots in downtown Bloomington Normal to take engagement photos!  The gas station has blue accents on the white brick walls and greenery growing through the asphalt which is my favorite part of the space. The gas station parking lot is always full during the week, so we can only take photos there on the weekends.  I LOVE spending time here with my couples. It’s the perfect place to use as a blank slate for documenting their love and keeping the focus on them.
