What em.roe means
I (Dana) am a mom to 3 boys and always had a girl name picked out. em.roe is the nickname I had for a first and middle name that I never got to use.
So I opened the studio here in Bloomington, IL for my boudoir shoots and growing branding work - creating with lots of amazing women along the way. This space became the girl I never had.
em.roe symbolizes confidence, angst, pride and gratitude. It's a place for creatives to get weird or warm, rage or rest. Whatever your vibe is, come create the next thing your mind thinks up.

Am I able to hang items from the ceiling/walls?
We can figure out a way! Just let me know what you're thinking and we'll come up with a solution to execute your ideas.
Can I get ready for my wedding here?
YES! However, this is a smaller space, groups up to 8 may be most comfortable.
where do i park?
Miller Street right next to the Studio typically has available parking. Any no parking signs are for the tenant parking lot entrance.
Are pets allowed?
Yep! We are pet friendly, but kindly ask to clean up any messes with the cleaners available. Also, we encourage a quick check of the sidewalk before heading out with your pet since their are frequent pets being walked.
What lens works best in the space?
35mm works beautifully. 24mm will allow for more documentary wide shots. And a 50mm will get good bokeh. I mostly shoot on a 24-70mm and play around with depth.
do you offer add-ons?
Not at the moment! What you see is what you get. I plan on adding a few seamless paper options that will require some planning ahead, so that may become an add-on option in the near future.
How do I access the studio?
After booking, I'll send your personal door code to access the space. Use this to both unlock and lock the door at the front on Main Street across from Denny's Doughnuts.
Do you provide props?
I do not have any extra props. However a tri-fold mattress with comforter is available for use with the white fold out couch.
how big is the space?
Roughly 350sq ft. Smaller but versatile. Good for smaller groups.
best time of day for natural light?
Light is great any time of day- even in the morning.
The large front windows do face west, so evening and sunset gets very warm diffused light.
The smaller south window in the moody corner gets direct sun in the early afternoon allowing for some fun silhouette/moody shots.
All windows are frosted to allow for privacy, but let in amazing light.
